Hi! My name is Caroline Laviolette and I am an essential oil educator for dōTERRA essential oils. It’s hard to believe that my family and I have been using essential oils for about three years now; my journey began when a friend mentioned dōTERRA’s Breathe Respiratory Blend to me to relieve my recurring (and quite bothersome) sinus issues. I couldn’t believe that something as simple as the combination of this blend of oils could give me the relief it did when nothing else would! From that moment on, I had such a strong desire to share these products with as many people as I could. The rest is history!
I recently moved from Chicago to Brentwood, Tennessee with my husband and three kids; we were ready for a change and this move was exactly what we were looking for! Going from a condo downtown in a big city to a house with a yard has been refreshing for our family, especially during our nation’s time of uncertainty. To say that we have been spending more time outside in an understatement to stay the least!
Every day, I am learning new ways to use essential oils and incorporate them into my family’s daily routine. One of the things I love the most about essential oils is that I am constantly learning new information about them and then passing that knowledge to others! Today, I am excited to share all about a simple, summer day in this mom’s oily life!
Each morning I like to rise before my kids to have a little “me time,” which I have learned is so important for my overall wellness. My kids thrive on routine and if I am being honest, I do too! Of course, every morning doesn’t look exactly the same, but in some form, I like to incorporate meditation, reading, planning out our day, and sipping on a cup of coffee! Right before my kids wake, I get dressed and apply an essential oil blend to set the tone for the day. I apply it on my wrists, neck, and ends of my hair. Different days and times of the year I apply different blends, so right now I am loving this “Summer Time Pure-fume Blend” because it doesn’t include any highly photosensitive citrus essential oils. I love putting my “pure-fumes” in pretty bottles, and my summer one is extra special because it has a few rubies in the bottle which just happens to be my birthstone!
Once the kids are all up, we eat breakfast, do a little school work, and then we like to go outside before the temperature gets too hot. We take a walk around the neighborhood and then the kids will play, play, play! Since our move, they have loved the change of scenery and freedom to now ride bikes, scooters, and skateboards on our never-before-had DRIVEWAY! But…with the addition of these new activities comes the increased amounts of accidents! Luckily, I’ve prepared myself for the ouchies, so I quickly reach for my “Cut, Scrape, Bump, and Bruise Blend!”
I swear this blend is like magic and that is why I have so many bottles of it around my house/car/purse/garage! I honestly don’t know if there has been a day since we moved that I haven’t used this on any of us–including the adults!
Once it starts to heat up, we head inside for lunch and then to change into our swimsuits. Being able to spend some time in the water every day makes a huge difference and also burns energy for my kids!
Burning energy comes with exhaustion, a decrease in patience…and an increase in tantrums! No matter how hard our family tries, at some point in the day, one of us (big or small) needs a moment to ourselves. The emotional benefits of essential oils was not something I initially thought of trying when I was introduced to essential oils, but now, I have come to rely on them quite often! It is in the afternoon that I tend to reach for my “Calm Moment Blend” the most.
Each of us likes to apply this blend a different way to get the very most out of it. My youngest (5) likes to smell it right from the roller and apply it down her spine, my middle (6) likes to apply it to her wrists and take a deep breath, and my oldest (8) likes to roll it around on his hands, rub his hands together, cup his hands around his nose, and take a few deep breaths. My personal favorite way to apply it is to my back and sides of my neck.
We eat dinner together as a family every night, and I am lucky enough to have a husband who loves to cook for us! This was a nightly tradition for me growing up and I love that I get to continue it with my children.
It wouldn’t be summer without being able to stay up a little later than usual! We love having a yard to play in and stay outside once it starts to cool off. My kids love that they get to try to catch fireflies at night, too! With fireflies comes mosquitoes, but we gladly take the bad with the good!
After showers is when we count the number of bug bites and it’s almost guaranteed that someone has one that’s driving them crazy! My kids all now know to grab the “Bub Bite Blend” and rub it over any bites so that they aren’t itching all night long. It is amazing how fast it actually works and they forget that they actually had a bug bite to begin with!
Everyone has a diffuser in their bedrooms and they love that they get to pick what to add into it each night. Some family favorites are Breathe, Serenity, Peace, Cedarwood, Lavender, and Eucalyptus. Sweet dreams!
