My 5-Minute Holistic Skin-Care Routine

Where I Started

Before I started Whimsy + Wellness and before I knew about the unregulated and questionable ingredients found in a lot of cosmetics, I worked at Macy’s beauty counters. I loved feeling feminine and beautiful, so helping other women feel confident applying their own makeup was the perfect job for me at the time.

Since those beauty counter days, I’ve done my research. I now know that some 80,000 + chemicals are currently on the market with very little safety data in place, especially in the cosmetics space. I know that decades of studies indicate that serious health issues are on the rise due, in some part, to overexposure of toxic chemicals. I wanted to do my part to eliminate as many of those chemicals in my home as I possibly could. My skin-care counter included.

Where I Am Now

Ultimately, this path led to me becoming the CEO of a wellness company and educating myself and others on the power of essential oils, crystals, and safe, clean products in the home, while trying to make the whole thing less boring and more fun.

In my efforts to help empower other women to make safer, cleaner choices for themselves and their families, I have tested a lot of products. I am not saying I’m an expert, but whenever I recommend a product or back it with my name, know that I test things for awhile before sharing. What I put here in this post is truly what’s on my bathroom countertops.

In Full Transparency

Let’s talk transparency. Some of these links below are affiliate links. I think the world is getting to a place where we accept that women sell things – can I get an amen from the rooftops, please?! And I think we’re getting to a place where we realize that women are crushing it, too.

Making a commission off of products you work hard to test, educate, and provide resources for, gives huge opportunities for women to bring freedom to their families while also working from home. At Whimsy + Wellness, I’m right there with you. One hundred percent.

As I test products and work hard to educate and share, I realized that it only makes sense to also share with links intact. Purchasing from the links I post will not charge you any extra, it will just give me a small percentage of whatever you purchase. This post will serve as a gathering place of all my favorite products that I can update over time and point people to when they ask me what I use for skin-care.

Alright! I just wanted to get that out of the way before digging into what I use for skin-care, because nothing feels more weird than wondering if someone is sharing products only because they’re getting paid to say they love something.

What I Use In My Holistic Skin-Care Routine

My research for a clean, holistic skin-care routine led to several wellness brands that I trust wholeheartedly. I use a blend of Whimsy + Wellness (duh!), Young Living, and Beautycounter and incorporate these products into my everyday routine. There are other wonderful options out there, this is just what has worked the best for me in this season of life.

FACIAL CLEANSING

OIL CLEANSER: Someday, when I don’t have children literally attached to me 90% of the time, I will DIY an oil cleanser with essential oils, like frankincense (the dreamiest!), lavender, geranium, etc., but for now I use the easy button of Beautycounters Countertime Lipid Defense Oil. I literally rub it all over my face at the end of the day. Directly over my makeup eyelashes and all- then wipe it away with a wet washcloth (warm is best)- and thats IT! It’s inspired by Asian beauty rituals and informed by Japanese technology this lightweight cleansing oil gently removes makeup and impurities without stripping the skin of essential lipids.

GEMSTONE FACIAL ROLLER: I use our facial roller on clean skin once or twice a day. It’s like a massage for your face muscles and feels SO good! Facial rolling has been around for centuries and is only recently making its way into Western society. Essentially, facial rolling tools such as jade and rose quartz are used to massage ones face and neck muscles, assisting in a process known as lymphatic drainage. These rollers also assist in general circulation of the surrounding skin cells, which brings fresh blood and oxygen to the skin. The gemstone type is a personal preference and doesn’t affect the effectiveness of the roller.

MOISTURIZER

DAILY MOISTURIZER: I try to apply a daily moisturizer. It makes my skin feel smooth and seems to hold my makeup better. I love Beautycounter’s Countermatch. It’s lightweight, but very moisturizing and matches your skins’ needs if you need more or less hydration.

Ingredients include:

  • Squalane: derived from olives, it draws moisture into the skin and visibly restores elasticity.
  • Phytic Acid: sourced from rice, this gentle exfoliator boosts radiance and helps skin breathe for a natural-looking glow.
  • Plum Oil: rich in omegas 6, 9 and vitamin E, it helps provide nutrients for vibrant, healthy-looking skin.
  • Shea Butter: helps hydrate and condition skin.

NIGHT MOISTURIZER: Sometimes, I apply this recovery sleeping cream before bed.  It has two forms of hyaluronic acid that help to create a protective layer, shielding skin from moisture loss during sleep.

Ingredients include:

  • Hyaluronic Acid: one of the most effective hydrating ingredients, it delivers moisture without clogging pores.
  • Squalane: derived from olives, it draws moisture into skin and visibly restores elasticity.
  • Plum Oil: rich in omegas 6, 9 and vitamin E, it helps provide nutrients for vibrant, healthy-looking skin.

SPOT TREATMENT

ACNE SPOT TREATMENT: When a spot appears, I use this SOS acne spot treatment and it helps SO much. I will also put an amethyst or rose quartz roller top on frankincense and lavender and roll those on any trouble areas, or use frankincense all over!

And there you have it! My complete 5-minute holistic skin-care routine. Anything longer than that and I won’t make it happen in this season of getting up in the night with small children. I’m on this journey with you, so if you’ve found a clean skin-care product that you can’t stop talking about, please comment below with what is working for you!
