Oh heyyy mama-friends!! My name is Emily!!! I’m Canadian born + Texan by marriage. My husband works as a high school Econ + Gov history teacher, and I’m a trained birth and postpartum doula + Silver leader with Young Living! I’m also mama to five little humans; Brooklyn (9), Robbie (8), Christopher (4), Ellie (2), + Charlie (11m). We live on a small chicken farm and I LOVE all things coffee, clogs, gardening, empowerment, homebirth, and goal setting.
This year has been SUCH an inside out, upside down adventure, and using essential oils has been a key part to getting our family through school! Whether your kiddos are going to school, schooling at home, homeschooling, unschooling, or wild schooling — essential oils can have a special place in your daily routine. Let’s run through a day schooling at home with oils:
First things first: Get those diffusers pumping their misty magic and set the tone for your day with a wake up blend. PRO TIP: Fill diffusers the night before, so it’s LITERALLY as easy as pressing a button to get your oils floating. Diffusing oils, a hot cup of coffee, warm breakfasts, + sunrises are some of my favorite things!!
Diffusing in your home workspace is a great way to get sciencey with your littles in a SIMPLE way. Pour water in and out comes vapor, giving you the opportunity to talk about solids, liquids, and gas! If it’s time to chat molecules — those sneaky little things you can’t see with a naked eye… Diffuse something easy to recognize like Orange or Pine and encourage your tweens to use their sense of smell to discover these tiny molecules in the air.
We like to knock out all our work in the morning which means it’s time to get down to business: Grab your rollers!! This is where we apply all our brain oils — Kidscents Geneyus, Creative Minds roller, + our fav bravery oil of choice (Valor, KidPower, or Stress Away + Sacred Frank)…. Because we can ALL do hard things!!! Rollers make using oils simple and are a great tool your kids can pocket and bring with them wherever they go.
Everyone loves recess! Fresh air, hands in the dirt, + feeling the sun on your skin is one of the best ways to get creative juices flowing, so we take frequent breaks to get outside! Don’t forget your Adventure Roller!! We apply this on necks, chests, spots + dots — anywhere and on anything that might get in the way of fun!!
By mid-afternoon morning coffee wears off and Teacher-Momma needs a pick-me-up. PROTIP: A drop of peppermint on my thumb, pushed to the roof of my mouth quickly alerts my senses. En-R-Gee swiped behind ears or down necks will boost you through the remainder of the afternoon. Another recipe to help you out of your afternoon slump is this fun misting spray!
Yay, friends!!! Time to wrap up and send the kids off to play! That’s an oily day in our schooling-at-home life!! No matter how you are doing school this year; if you’re doing it without oils, you’re working too hard! Come visit me over at @emilyjoyundone for all things wellness, motherhood, farmwife + life, and joy filled living. Let’s be friends!
